Commercial Growth
This geographic area that anchors the west end of the Boise-Nampa MSA has been discovered. Commercial growth is becoming widespread and explosive!
With a total population of more than 563,000, the metropolitan area offers businesses and residents alike a unique set of factors that make this southwestern part of Idaho a great place for families to establish roots and businesses to thrive. All indications suggest that Canyon County, with its more rural characteristics and underdeveloped commercial landscape, is beginning to set the pace for commercial growth.
Canyon County is now being pursued for business expansion more than any other time in its history. Residential growth continues to grow at an unprecedented pace.
In Nampa, the $32 million Karcher Interchange started construction with a schedule that may achieve completion by year end 2006. Other major road projects in Nampa include the bridging of Amity and Kings Road on the southeast side of town and widening of Garrity Boulevard from I-84 to the airport.
Every effort is being made to ensure that all of the growth does not compromise those characteristics and values that have made Nampa, Idaho a desirable place to live, work and play.
Downtown Nampa
The Historic District in downtown Nampa is experiencing energized revitalization efforts due to a renewed interest from city leaders and private investors.
The goal is to redevelop downtown into a pedestrian-friendly cultural center. The City of Nampa will match money that businesses spend renovating historic facades. City leaders are considering a new 3-story mixed-use library building in downtown. Private businesses are planning for the Flying M coffee shop, bringing a unique atmosphere to the area. Multiple other buildings have been privately purchased and are aggressively being marketed as the Belle District. Belle and William Dewey were responsible for developing much of the town of Nampa and they built the majestic Dewey Palace Hotel around 1900. Downtown Nampa developers are committed to creating a “sense of place” to be enjoyed by all Nampans’ along with visitors and guests that come to Nampa.
