Recreation

The quality of life in Nampa, located in the heart of the Treasure Valley is enhanced by its numerous recreational opportunities and growing cultural calendar. Activities are as varied as the terrain of the state of Idaho. Nampa’s high desert location – bounded to the north by the Front Range of the Rockies and to the south by the Owyhee Mountains – provides an ideal climate for year-round sports and recreation. There’s plenty to do.

A cool evening drive through the west end of the Valley leads to quiet back road farms and the sweet smell of fields in Canyon County. Play a round of golf in any season. Fish for bass and trout. Enjoy a symphony or an outdoor concert. Drive to the beautiful orchard country around Sunny Slope, where the St. Chapelle Winery celebrates with summer Sunday Jazz Concerts. Hop on your mountain bike, ski the waters or ski the slopes.

Enjoy a variety of Nampa’s recreational alternatives:

  • 20 city parks covering more than 200 acres with many walking trails
  • Fishing at Wilson Ponds or Lake Lowell
  • Water skiing or boating at Lake Lowell
  • Golf at 2 public golf courses offering 45 holes
  • 1 private 9-hole golf course
  • 140,000 square foot Recreation Center with large indoor climbing wall, 3 collegiate size basketball courts, indoor running track, 5 swimming pools, spa, various activity rooms and a Senior Center for the young at heart.

Nampa’s cultural opportunities are a pleasant blend of old fashioned western hospitality and an ever increasing appreciation of the arts.

Nampa’s facilities include:

  • Nampa Civic Center with 42,000 square feet of auditorium and meeting space
  • Idaho Center Complex with an indoor seating capacity of more than 12,000 and an outdoor Amphitheater seating capacity of 10,500
  • The Brandt Center provides seating for 1,500 making it the largest performance auditorium in Canyon County.

Activities are abundant and varied with Snake River Dayz in the summer featuring the world famous Snake River Stampede. Other Dayz activities include the Griddles & Fiddles Festival, Summer Sounds Concert and the Stampede Through Town Family Fun Run/Walk.

Nampa hosts many community golf tournaments, the annual Mercy Community Sale and Valley Wellness Fest & Child Fair to name a few.

From Nampa, you can venture down country roads and discover the best of southwestern Idaho. Explore the ghost town of Silver City, gaze at ancient Indian petroglyphs along the Snake River or trek along the spine of the highest sand dune in North America at Bruneau. Raft the raging waters of the Snake River deep in the chasm of Hells Canyon.
